Ford Just Introduced An ST Variant Of Their Edge SUV, With An Insane 335HP Under The Hood!

2019 Ford Edge ST

Yesterday, Ford Performance released a teaser video letting people know that an all-new ST model was on the way, sparking wild speculation across the web about which of their vehicles was going to be getting the ST treatment.

Today, we got our answer with the unveiling of the 2019 Ford Edge ST, Ford’s first SUV to be tuned by the Ford Performance team. The all-new Edge ST is powered by a specially tuned 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost engine that puts out an insane 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.

Pretty crazy, right? I never would have predicted a Ford Edge ST, but cars like the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45, BMW X6M, and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk have proved that there’s a market for performance SUVs. You know, for when you’ve got to get the kids to soccer practice in a hurry!

The Ford Edge ST sounds like it should be a shit ton of fun on the road, with plenty of power on tap, outfitted for dynamic handling with a quick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, standard all-wheel drive, an available performance brake package, and an ST-tuned sport suspension.

Sport Mode allows you to experience more aggressive throttle response and shifting patterns that hold gears near redline through cornering maneuvers, sharper engine braking, and a more resonant exhaust tone. You can also manually shift using the steering wheel-mounted SelectShift paddle shifters while firmly positioned in unique Edge ST seating with additional bolstering.

To complement its performance abilities, the Edge ST features new front and rear styling, a wide mesh grille for optimal cooling, deep side skirts and dual-exhaust outlets. Unique 21-inch wheels are available, with gloss black treatment that perfectly highlight the red calipers behind them.

But that’s not all. In addition to the performance, the Edge ST comes with a plethora of technology and safety features as well. Standard on all Edge models is FordPass Connect, an embedded modem that provides a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices. Using the FordPass app on your phone, you can start, lock, and locate their car remotely. A 12-speaker B&O PLAY premium audio system by HARMAN will have you rocking all night long. And SYNC with AppLink now has Alexa connectivity.

On the safety side, the Edge ST introduces first-for-Ford and first-in-segment features, including post-collision braking, evasive steering assist, and adaptive cruse control with stop-and-go and lane centering. Of course, there are all of the standard driver-assist technologies that we have come to rely on these days (blind spot monitoring, pre-collision assist, auto high beams, etc) as well.

Overall, I think Ford did a great job with the 2019 Edge ST, a real segment buster that it sure to have people talking when it makes it’s official debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week. Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, but we’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
